This Nurse Aide Certification Class is approved by the PA Department of Education and includes theory, lab and clinical hours.
In the classroom lab setting, students practice hands-on skills on each other. The skills and theory knowledge learned will then be utilized in the clinical setting of a nursing home where students will provide care for nursing home clients.
A nurse aide is responsible for ADL ( activities of daily living) of clients in nursing homes, home health agencies and personal care/assisted living facilities. This includes bathing, dressing, feeding, transferring, patients, toileting, grooming and ambulation.
All hours of the nurse aide curriculum MUST be attended. A maximum of two (2) absences is allowed with only one (1) absence being a clinical absence. All absent hours must be made up before the last day of class.
The following prerequisites for entrance into class are at the student’s expense:
· Physical Exam
· 2-step tuberculosis test
· Criminal history report inquiry from PA state police or FBI check.
Successful completion of the class will result in the student being able to take the state certification test through the American Red Cross. Successful completion is attained by:
· Final grade of a minimum 75% on quizzes, tests and final exam
· Satisfactory completion of all lab skills
· Satisfactory completion of clinical experience
· All hours of the program completed by the last day of class
